The Regional Bird Collection (CRAV) comprises 993 specimens belonging to 230 species, representing 40% of the birds in the state of Guerrero. This collection is the outcome of fieldwork conducted by academics and graduate and undergraduate students as part of research projects, enabling the specimens to be collected for academic and scientific purposes.
Main functions of the CRAV
- Reservoir of biological, ecological, biogeographic, genetic, and morphological information at a regional level
- Tool to carry out and support research conducted by students and researchers
- Environmental education instrument for the public
Records of bird specimen collections are distributed in the four biogeographic provinces found in Guerrero, most of these having been collected in the Sierra Madre del Sur and the Coastal Plain.
A part of the specimens has been presented as dissemination material in:
- Science and technology fairs
- Bird festivals
- Exhibition to students
